Notary Public Policy
Ellenville Public Library & Museum offers free notary public services for the benefit of residents of our community.
Customers seeking notary service should call EPL&M at (845) 647-5530 prior to their visit to ensure a notary is available. Notary service is on a first come, first served basis and cannot be guaranteed to customers who do not call in advance to make an appointment
Notary service is not available in the thirty minutes prior to the time of closing.
Notaries are limited to notarizing three documents per person, per visit.
Library Employees who hold a valid New York State Notary license are available on site to provide notary services to the public.
Library notaries public are required to follow all New York State laws governing notaries public.
This service is available when our NYS commissioned staff members are on duty and available.
Valid government-issued photo identification is required of any customer seeking notary service.
Notary service is not available for birth certificates, marriage licenses, I-9 forms or Powers of Attorney.
The notary must be able to read and understand what they have been asked to notarize. Documents in any language other than English will not be notarized at the library.
Library Notaries are not permitted to make use of a translator to communicate with a Notary service customer.
Notaries will not provide service if the customer, document or circumstances of the request for Notary service raises any issue of authenticity, ambiguity, doubt or uncertainty for the notary. In this event, the Library Notary may, at their sole discretion, decline to provide Notary Service.
In situations where a witness is required, the Library will not provide witnesses, and witnesses may not be solicited from patrons using the library.
Library notaries public are not attorneys licensed to practice law, and they may not give legal advice about immigration or any other legal matter, or accept fees for legal advice.
No electronic notarization.
