Starting Your Own Business; a 2-part seminar with Jean Morris
Learn the nuts and bolts of how to get started in business in this 2 part seminar, including legal forms of organization, corresponding tax ramifications, registering your business and more. We’ll also explore your entrepreneurial strengths and weaknesses. Classical Guitar Concert

Eric Roth will present a program of guitar music from the 19th century, which was a time of striking innovation and development of this familiar instrument. In honor or Mother’s Day, the program will include works by Catharina Josepha Pratten (1821-1895), the first great woman guitar composer, as well as Mertz, Shand, Tarrega, and others. Music will be performed on a replica 1830 Panormo guitar.

Uprisings – with Dave Miller

Uprisings – Causes and Consequences of NY State Prison riots, escapes and more.

David Miller, former Superintendent of Eastern Correctional Facility, will discuss riots, escapes and disturbances from various NYS prisons.  Included in his presentation will be the infamous Attica riot, the recent escape from Clinton CF, escapes from Hudson Valley prisons at both Shawangunk and Eastern Correctional Facilities, and the hostage situation at Sing-Sing.  Mr. Miller will examine the historical context of each event as well as the causes, specific incidents which sparked the event and the changes that resulted in the aftermath. Supt. Miller had a 40-year career in Criminal Justice including his last 11 years as the Warden of Eastern Correctional Facility.  He was a trained hostage negotiator with direct involvement as team leader during the Sing-Sing hostage stand-off.  He recently wrote the book Punishment Enough about his experiences in corrections which includes a chapter on  “when things go wrong”.  His presentation will take place on Wednesday, May 17th at 7:00 pm.  Time for questions and answers will be provided, as well as an opportunity to purchase a copy of his book.
