Who Wants to Be a Dungeon Master? A Seminar on How to Run and Play Roleplaying Games with Next Gen Gaming
Join Ellenville Public Library and Museum and Next Gen Gaming for an interactive seminar!
Being a “dungeon master”, “storyteller”, or “game master” can often seem to be a daunting task. However, running an effective roleplaying game is much more skill based than popular opinion would dictate. It is a learned practice that can be improved through patience, feedback, creativity, and effort. With the rise in popularity and mainstream appeal of games like Dungeons and Dragons, storytellers are in demand! Jared Fishman, game-based learning specialist and co-director of HMGS Next Gen, Inc, will lead a 2-hour seminar breaking down tried and true methods of crafting and running an interesting story set within a roleplaying environment. In 20 years, Jared has run dozens of successful campaigns and integrated his passion for gaming into his classroom, where he runs several courses at the Hackley School, in Tarrytown, NY, using gaming as the primary lens and teaching tool. These include “Topics in the History of Warfare” and “Collaborative Storytelling and Roleplay Gaming”.
This is a great opportunity for any roleplaying enthusiast, and experience levels could range from novice to master. Taking this workshop will give you the confidence you need to take the bold steps towards being an effective storyteller. Furthermore, this workshop could be an outlet for actors, writers, and other artists who might want to channel the same skills into their own craft.

Sam’s Point Clean Up
Join Sam’s Point Area of Minnewaska State Park Preserve in partnership with the Ellenville Public Library in keeping our park litter free. Hikers often leave behind water bottles, candy wrappers, and orange peels. Litter not only detracts from the beauty of our natural world, but also endangers wildlife. Enjoy a morning in the park with your family making a difference! We will meet at the Sam’s Point visitor center and walk a total of 3 miles around loop road. This event is recommended for ages eight and above, accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. Due to COVID protocols, the total number of participants for this program is limited to fifteen individuals. All participants must wear face coverings or keep a minimum six-foot distance away from others who are not part of your immediate household. Pre-registration is required.
